New year, new you! We’ve been hearing this sentiment a lot in the past few weeks and have probably heard it every year since we can consciously remember. Many of us take time at the end of each year to establish goals for the new year — and many of those goals are wellness-focused. 

Detroit is a rapidly growing tech hub and despite economic layoffs in 2022, the tech industry in the Motor City continues to grow. Detroit was recently ranked the #1 emerging startup ecosystem in the world, and we can see why — it’s full of some of the best startups and tech companies in the region — and the country! 

This year has certainly had its share of ups and downs. It’s true that the Midwest isn’t totally immune to the widespread tech layoffs that are happening on the coasts, but overall the Midwest tech community is still going strong. Times might be tough. Our community is tougher. 

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: tech companies are still hiring! I know it doesn’t seem like it, but it’s true.  If you’re someone who’s been recently laid off, I know it sucks. It’s a scary, frustrating and sometimes sad time. But there’s hope.

Detroit is a growing hub for startups and tech companies. From Fortune 500 companies to rising startups, Detroit is also home to some of the best places to work in tech. 

Layoffs, hiring freezes, venture capital slow down . . . these are the headlines currently making the news. And yes, there's no doubt all of that is happening right now. But during this uncertain time, there's also quite a bit of growth happening, too.  So we partnered with our friends at PeerSignal to stay on top of everything happening in the tech hiring market right now.

It’s been two and a half years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic drove millions of people to move away from the coasts and closer to family in the middle of the country. In fact, 22% of adults moved during the pandemic, and many of those people chose to be in the Midwest. 

Despite last quarter being the slowest for VC funding since 2020, there’s still significant growth happening in the startup and tech space, especially in the Midwest.  This month already we’ve seen humongous rounds for top Midwest cybersecurity companies like NetSPI and Arctic Wolf, both based in Minneapolis and raised over $400M each.
