This year has certainly had its share of ups and downs. It’s true that the Midwest isn’t totally immune to the widespread tech layoffs that are happening on the coasts, but overall the Midwest tech community is still going strong. Times might be tough. Our community is tougher. 

Detroit is a growing hub for startups and tech companies. From Fortune 500 companies to rising startups, Detroit is also home to some of the best places to work in tech. 

Layoffs, hiring freezes, venture capital slow down . . . these are the headlines currently making the news. And yes, there's no doubt all of that is happening right now. But during this uncertain time, there's also quite a bit of growth happening, too.  So we partnered with our friends at PeerSignal to stay on top of everything happening in the tech hiring market right now.

Despite last quarter being the slowest for VC funding since 2020, there’s still significant growth happening in the startup and tech space, especially in the Midwest.  This month already we’ve seen humongous rounds for top Midwest cybersecurity companies like NetSPI and Arctic Wolf, both based in Minneapolis and raised over $400M each. Today, Detroit-based startup Autobooks announced a $50 million Series C funding round led by Macquarie Capital Principal Finance. The round also includes participation from new and existing investors including: Baird Capital, Commerce Ventures, Draper Triangle, MissionOG, and TD Bank (NYSE: TD). Larry Handen, Senior Managing Director at Macquarie Capital will join Autobooks board.

Headquartered in Detroit, Autobooks is a top fintech startup in the Midwest that's making small business banking easy. Today they announced they raised $25 million in Series B funding. The round was led by MissionOG and includes participation from Renaissance Venture Capital, Detroit Venture Partners and Draper Triangle, along with TD Bank Group. This round brings their total funding up to $42.5 million.
